Shown below are pictures of the most recent monkeys who resided in our colony. Their ages ranged from 18 to 21 years. Encore and Forté, who recently died, originated from the lab of Dr. Charles Snowdon, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Oriole, who is still here, was born at Carleton (parents were Olympia and Vulture). Roosevelt was Oriole's partner, and he died in 2023. The lifespan of a tamarin is typically 12-15 years.  All have been reared in social groups. Encore and Forté lived together for a little over a year before they succumbed to extreme aging conditions.  Oriole now lives alone and we spend a lot of time with her. Carleton’s colony is inspected twice each year by the IACUC committee, and once each year by a federal USDA team for care, record-keeping, and health and well-being. We have always passed all inspections well with no violations found pertaining to the monkeys. Click on the picture to find more information on each monkey!
